Hi there, Listeners!
After a year of solitude in all our separate hermitages, it seems that many folks are starting to take their first tentative steps back into the wild world of community and commingling. In that spirit, today I want to share a song of friendship, written by a pair of best friends named Caden and Joel.
These fine young gentlemen are both nonspeaking spellers, so they’ve gone through many of the same joys and challenges in their parallel journeys into language and communication. But the similarities go far deeper than that: they have perfectly paired senses of humor, a shared love of wit and wordplay, a shared compassion for the humans and environments that surround them, and a shared desire to advocate for their fellow non-speakers on the Spectrum – so that someday, everyone will find friendships as meaningful and soul-nourishing as the one that these two lucky writers have developed together. You can listen to their song “I Found a Friend” here, and read their (AMAZING!!!) interview about friendship here.
It’s a perfect song to carry in our hearts as we reconnect with old friends and family, and maybe even a song to hum as we make some new friends in the sunny summer months to come.
Your friend,
Brian
Perfect description of friendship! I love your crest. Are the parts of the Crest a secret between you both or would you be willing to share why you chose the things on it? :) It is perfectly fine to keep it a secret. Secrets between friends are special and cherished. I am glad you found a great connection. I remember my first real bonded friendship. Its like we could read each others minds and tons of laughing! Thank you both for sharing a glimpse into your friendship with this beautiful poem/song. :)
